Bowser’s lieutenants are absent from this edition and this means no Bowser Jr.
This version focuses on Mario chasing Bowser from one kingdom to another instead of world building and the only continuity you will find from the previous games in the series is the basic premise depicting Mario as the hero, Bowser as the villain and Princess Peach as the damsel in distress.
